Dedication of New Schoolhouse
A very enjoyable social event Friday evening was the dedication of the new schoolhouse at Twelve Corners.
For some years the old schoolhouse in this section of the town has been an eyesore and was known to be decidedly unfit. After considerable agitation and discussion of the matter at several town meetings a lot was purchased and the new building, now practically complete, erected at a cost of $5000.
The building will accommodate a neighborhood in which there are about 20 families and is especially designed to meet community purposes in general. First came a splendid supper, at which over 200 persons were fed.
Superintendent of Public Schools William B. Woodbury and the members of the superintending school committee were present. The big cake donated by a former resident, now living in Waterville, fell by lot to a member of the school committee. Following the supper came a program including several short speeches by visitors, recitations and music. The proceeds of the supper will be used for the benefit of the school.
