Horse Thieves.

On Friday night two horses were stolen from a stable in Sac county, near the line of Hamilton county. They also took three sets of double harness.

When discovered pursuit was made and the country thoroughly scoured in every direction; handbills sent north, east and west, and a rigid search instituted.

On Sunday afternoon Mr. Hezg of Wright county, came to Sac City, with the information that the thieves had been at the house of a farmer on the White Fox some six miles north of Wall Lake, and that while there the Sheriff of Wright county, with a posse had attempted to arrest them, and had been beaten off with the loss of two men dangerously wounded-one of whom, Mr. Donelson was shot through the right breast and is supposed to be mortally wounded, and Mr. J. Milrose, shot in the neck; the ball has been extracted, and he is doing well.

The thieves, three in number, were armed with shot guns and revolvers, and when the posse came to Mr. McCmahouse they barricaded themselves, and when the Sheriff had opened the door, they broke through the windows and commenced firing upon them until they had forced them to fall back, when they saddled, taking with them the stolen horses and the horse belonging to Mr. Donelson, who was lying there wounded.

The next that was heard of them, they were at Bach Grove where they were seen and the alarm given. A courier dispatched to Sac City to assist in taking them. Upon his arrival the county had spread the news and to see the excitement was enough. The citizens assembled, followed by two or three wagons hastily assembled, but upon arriving there they found that they had a start and large creek, and that in the direction of Wall Lake.

The thieves were finally overtaken by the citizens close to Wall Lake. A desperate fight ensued in which the thieves killed one of the horses and so badly wounded another that it had to be killed. The thieves were captured without further resistance. They proved to be from Michigan, and one of them, T. Ash, is known to have been in Sac county before. They were found between Sac City and Storm Lake, and brought back to Sac City.

It is thought that both Hamilton, and Wright counties will offer a reward of from $500 to $1,000 for the arrest and conviction of the murderers, and the probability is that the reward will be offered for them.
