LOS ANGELES, Dec. 23.—The All-Southern football team which meets an All-Western eleven here December 26, was to have the advantage of the dry turf again today as it galloped through a third practice session.
The grid army from Dixie, striking a dry field yesterday for the first time in its second workout, put on an enlightening exhibition. Unhindered by the slippery grass of the day before, Spears and Estes led the backfield in a brilliant assault.
Jack McDowell had the ball sailing through the air in astounding forward passes that threatened a busy Monday for the west. Spears and Estes were passing well also. Crowley, Creson and Spotts contributed to the showing as they raced down the field to retrieve the long passes.
The red heads of Gene Cook and Jim Tunney stood out at the west's practice. Cook, from the University of Washington, and Tunney, from Loyola College of Los Angeles, flashed through with the ball for yard after yard. Upon Cook the west is depending for its kicking.
Oak Pendleton of Whittier was another backfield luminary.
The west was to work out this morning, the south in the afternoon.
