Hon. Alvin Flanders, recently elected to Congress from Washington Territory, is an old resident of Boston and a practical mechanic. During his residence here he was employed by I. & S. Adams & Co., and Isaac Adams, of South Boston, and during this time published for a season the little paper called the New Era, devoted to the interest of the mechanic. He went to California in 1852, resided there about ten years, and served several terms in the California Legislature, and was afterwards appointed by President Lincoln an officer in the United States branch mint. He removed to Washington Territory in 1863.
