Five Graduate With Honors At Savannah State College Wednesday

Five members of the August, 1961, graduation class will receive the highest honors from the College. They are Virginia Annette Mercer, who graduates magna cum laude; Carolyn Campbell, cum laude; Geraldine Williams, cum laude; Willie J. Mezeke, cum laude; and Dessie Simmons Dent, cum laude.

Miss Mercer, a business education major from Metter, Georgia, is secretary of Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society; listed in Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges; member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and president; editor-in-chief, Tiger Staff; news editor and editor, The Tiger's Roar Staff; treasurer, Business Club; secretary, Homecoming Committee, and member of the Enterpriser Staff.

Miss Mercer served as reporter of Region V, of Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society and attended both the Regional Meeting in Fort Valley, Georgia, and the National Meeting at A. & T. College of Greensboro, North Carolina. She attended the Columbia Scholastic Press Association Meeting at Columbia University, New York, in 1961, where she served as a representative of Savannah State College. Served as coordinator of the Yearbook workshop session at the Southern Regional School Press Institute held at Savannah State College.

She attended the Regional Meeting of Alpha Kappa Sorority in 1960 held in Orangeburg, South Carolina, and the Regional Meeting in 1961 held in Tallahassee, Florida. She was also an attendant to Miss Alpha Phi Alpha for 1960-61.

Carolyn Campbell, English major from Savannah, Georgia, an attendant to Miss Savannah State College, 1960-61; member of The Tiger's Roar Staff; Boar's Head Club; Choral Society; Alpha Kappa Mu Tutorial System; and listed in Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.

Geraldine Williams, Mathematics major from Columbus, Georgia, is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority; French Club; The Tiger's Staff, and listed in Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.

Willie J. Mezeke, Mathematics major from Savannah, is a member of Beta Kappa Chi.

Dessie Simmons Dent, Business Administration major from Tennille, Georgia, is a member of the Business Club, and Women's Glee Club.
