21st November 1867.

Deer Mister Pell.—As you ax yore friends, in yore Scent-er-nell, to send you the lection nuse from every Kounty as sune as the lection is oyer, so you may publish the nuse in the Sent-er-nell and let every boddy no how the lections ar gone, and as you haint got manny frends in-thess here parts and mity few ov them kan reed ur rite, I bey konc'ewded to obleege you and let you no how this Kounty has gone and voted—I no you wood never heer ef I didn't rite to you and I no you woodnt sleap well uv nights, nor could not say yore prairs good, nor couldnt eat, nor couldnt drink nor couldnt do nuthin rite ef you didn't heer the lection news, so I have konclewded to scnd it on to you and to let you no how the lection went in this Kounty, as I dont want you to keap awake all the tine, nur I dont want you to stop praing, fur yore prars ar allers ansered in a most remarkabel manner, nor I don't want you to fast too long, fur ef you do the price ov beaf will go down and wee mountin fokes will luse a site of munny; nur I don't want you too git too thursty fur I am orfully scared fur feer wee hayent inaid more korn and rye than will doo fur bred and our stok, so in pity fur you and our Kuntry I have konclewded to rite to you and send you the lection nuse and let you no how the lection went and how-the peeple up here voted in this lection, so that you may publish the nuse in the Scent-er-nell and let all the peeple every where no how the lection went up here in this Kounty and how the white fokes and the niggers voted up here in Burke Kounty North Calina Stait and how the lection went fur a Kunvenching and agin a Kunvenching and how the lection went—and the only thing I will charg you fur mi trubble in riting to you an tellin you how the lection went up here in this Kounty and how the peeple voted is that you will send fur Seaton when you go to reed this letter and let him hear it, so he may no how the lection went up heer in this Kounty: and when you and Seaton hav red it then I want you to send fur frend John-o-thing and rced it over to him and then I beleeve you will awl feal like praing and I no when any prain is to be done that you no how to do it, fur I heard you pra wunst—but ef any cussin is too be dun you had better jist hold frend John-o-thing's hat and let Seeting pat him on the back and then Ile bet mi pile that he will doo the cussin part too vore intire satisfaxun, but ef he shood fale and not cuss hard anuff to sute you, then awl you have too doo is to send up here after sum oy ower offis holders who has been sucken the publik tit so long that thay don't no how to let go, and Ile enshure that they will cuss tell vou will be obleedged to shout—why my deer Mr. Pell you may get them between you an the sun and vou can sea the cusses as thick in them as maggits in a ded hoss an it won't surprise me wun bit ef thay git so mad when thay hav to let that tit go thay have been suking so long that tbey will go rite strate and jine the Bankrup law. Well now deer Mr. Pell as I sed before I will let you no how the lection went up here in this Kounty and how the peeple up here voted. And fur fear you don't no who yore frends were here and who yore enemise was, I will tell you. Yore frends was Mr. agin a Kunvenching and Mister Flemmon and Mister Kurbey, and yore enemise was Mr. Fur a Kunvencling and Mister Parrks an Mister Murfy. Well as I was gwine on too say how tbe lection went and how the peeple voted, yore frends Mister Agin a Kunvenching got 230 votes in this Kounty at the lection and Mister Flemmon got 235 votes and Mister Kurbey got 235 votes—and yore enemise Mister Fur a Kunvenching got 792 votes at the lection and Mister Parks got 787 votes and Mister Murfy got 787 votes; but I no deer Mister Pell that it will do you good to no, and I want too give you awl the satisfaxion I kin, that only about 335 ov the nasty, dirty niggers voted in the lection in this Kounty so you see that ef thay hadent voted at awl yore frends wood have bin beet enny how by more then too hunclerd votes. So no more at preasant but remanes yore affeckshunite frend tell deth.

Well as thar is no boddy to rite to you frum up thar, I hev konclewded to rite to you miself an let you no how the lection went and how the people voted up thar an how yore frends run at the lection so you kin publish it in the Scent-er-nell and let yore frends down thar no how the lection went up here an how menny votes yore frends up here got at the lection.
