Full Text

Paris, May 14. A few Days since the Dauphiness went with the King to Marly, in a new-invented easy Chariot: And for the greater Safety, Care was taken to survey the Road, make it even where craggy or sunk, and remove all the loose Stones and Pebbles that lay scattered in it; by which Means, her Royal Highness performed the Journey without the least Accident. -- This pleasant Journey is about three Miles, in a better Road than any about London. But the Reader must remember, that the Dauphiness is pregnant, and too much Care cannot be taken of her. However, if Safety had been regarded more than Grandeur, they needed not have made such a Chariot, as a Litter, born by a Couple of Mules, would have answered the End better, and carried her safe over the Alps, if required. Too much Care in those Cases, if the Opinion of Physicians and Divines may be regarded, is as bad as none at all: Something should be left to Nature, and Something to Providence.

Event Details

The Dauphiness went with the King to Marly in a new-invented easy Chariot. For greater safety, the road was surveyed, made even where craggy or sunk, and loose stones and pebbles removed. The journey is about three miles. The Dauphiness is pregnant. Commentary suggests a litter borne by mules would be safer and simpler than the grand chariot, and excessive care may be as bad as none, leaving something to Nature and Providence.
