Full Text
Strong prejudices still exist in Honduras and Guatemala against our countrymen.
In Guatemala, six Americans had been summarily shot, and others banished from the country, by order of Gen. Carrera. Three persons, named Buchanan, Van Buren, and Robert Taylor, appealed to Mr. Savage, who had charge of the legation of the United States in Guatemala, who told them he could not do anything for them, and was fearful that he should himself have to leave, as there was no limit to the power of Carrera, who was very much enraged against the people of the United States. A good deal of bad feeling was created by the American ship Rawlins having been charged extra tonnage dues at Puerto Barrios, while loading mahogany.
