"All of the six railroad crossings between Reno and Wadsworth will be eliminated when the new highway is built," said George W. Borden state highway engineer, to a Reno Gazette reporter in commenting upon the Hafed accident, in which eight men were killed by a railroad motor.
"This removal of all crossings is conditioned, of course, upon the co-operation of the railroad company. But as a rule the officials of the railroads are as willing as the highway departments to dispense with crossings of any character.
"As now planned the road will run north of the tracks all the way to Wadsworth and between Wadsworth and Fernley there will be an underpass crossing built at the cost of the state and railroad company."
