Bernard Baruch's Proposal Regarding Atomic Energy

PRAVDA ASSERTS ALL BOMBS SHOULD BE DESTROYED NOW NOT AFTER UN ACTS (Associated Press)

MOSCOW, June 24. Pravda, Russia's semi-official newspaper, today editorially opposed the plan recently outlined at the Atomic Bomb Commission by Bernard Baruch who favored the United States keeping the secret of the production of the atomic bomb until the United Nations have acted to outlaw use of it.

Baruch's proposal was that the United Nations set up a commission with powers to investigate every country in the world to ascertain if it had in its possession atomic bombs or material for their production.

Pravda, echoing Russian Ambassador Gromyko, asserted that the right way to act regarding the bombs was to destroy immediately all bombs in existence, as well as all material that can be used in their manufacture.

Pravda declared that, were the Baruch plan adopted, it would make the United States the most powerful nation in the world, and that, through the exercise of that power, it could control the policy of the world.

Its counter proposal, Pravda said, would put all nations on an equal footing in the non-use of atomic bombs.
