At our late town meeting, the subject of purchasing a farm for the support of the poor—about which, our indefatigable townsman, Maj. Chandler, has exerted a commendable degree of activity—was taken into consideration, and met with a very favorable reception. The town, by an almost unanimous vote, appointed a Committee, consisting of Messrs. Timothy Chandler, Stephen Ambrose, Abiel Walker, Abel Hutchins, and Isaac Dow, to purchase such a farm as they might see fit, and suitable stock for the same : and authorized the Selectmen to hire and appropriate all needful sums for the payment of the purchase money and expenses.
