Advise Treating
Linens Carefully

Professional and skilled workmen realize there's a right tool to use for every job. If homemakers would apply the same general idea to their daily work, textile technicians at American Institute of Laundering say that the homemakers would get a lot more wear out of their linens and other washables.

For example, they suggest that homemakers use inexpensive and easily disposable cheesecloth or cotton rags instead of terrycloth towels and washcloths for housecleaning. Grease and heavy dirt rubbed into terrycloth may be difficult to remove when it is sent to the laundry and a permanent stain may result. The same holds true for dishcloths. A scouring pad does a more effective job of cleaning heavy grease and saves dishcloths from possible carbon stains from the bottoms of pans.

Potholders are constructed to absorb heat and do heavy duty-napkins aren't. Yet, some homemakers use napkins in place of a potholder. If a hot dish or pan is placed directly on a napkin or tablecloth, a scorch or a carbon mark may develop. Even the professional laundryman won't be able to perform a miracle and remove these marks.
