MR. WAYNE,

A Publication has lately appeared in the Aurora, signed by Tench Coxe, accusing his "old friend" Dr. Benjamin Rush of a most flagrant breach of truth, and plainly insinuating that in his political conduct he has been guilty of a degree of hypocrisy and falsehood which classes him with those most worthless and dangerous of men. Coxe's character has indeed long been considered by the virtuous part of the community as too monstrously depraved, to suffer his declarations to obtain any weight, except in so far as they are corroborated by strong circumstantial evidence, by the character of the party accused, or by his silence upon those charges which the public voice calls upon him explicitly to answer. In the facts which Dr. Rush is alleged to have asserted, this whole nation is essentially interested, and every citizen has a right to be informed on what foundation such assertions have been made. He is therefore solemnly called upon to declare whether the statement alluded to, is correctly made, and if so, what were the grounds upon which he hazarded charges against a Government, of which he was an officer, of a nature so serious, and as is believed, so wickedly calumnious.
