"Iodin" for Goiter Endorsed by
State Health Board.

Measures used in many cities for the prevention of goiter through treatment of school children with "iodin" under the direction of a physician received the unanimous endorsement of the members of the state board of health at their recent annual meeting at Madison. The plan consists of taking a small amount of sodium iodine in water, or as a wafer, daily for two weeks twice a year.

The board withheld its approval of proposals to treat the water supplies of municipalities with iodin for general administration to the entire population, as is being done by Rochester, N. Y., at the present time. The board held that this work is still in experimental stages and that there are other reasons why such broad adoption of the preventive treatment should await more exact knowledge of the results.
