There having been much Thieving in this and the neighbouring Towns for several Months past, last Wednesday a notable Discovery was made of stolen Goods. Three Persons were immediately taken up, (two Men and a Woman) and by the frank Confession of one Man, the whole Scene was laid open. After several Hours Examination, they were in the Evening safely committed to Goal, in order for Trial in March next, when, 'tis hop'd, they will meet with their just Deserts.

It appears by the great Collection of Goods found in their House, they have been very diligent in this Sort of Business, and very crafty in their Concealment of them, as there is near a common Room full already collected, viz. Table Linnen of all Sorts, Sheets, Shirts, Shifts, Pillow Cases, Stockings, Caps, Handkerchiefs, Aprons, Jackets, Sheeps Wool, Bags of Feathers, (four live Hogs in their Cellar, which Persons that have lost, lay Claim to) and a Variety of other Articles.

By this thievish Disposition they have taken almost the whole of some Persons Linnen which were hung out after Washing, so that many had scarcely a Shirt left to put on; and not only so, but they have robbed Yards and Barns of great Numbers of Poultry, especially those that were fit for the Spit, that the Owners have not had a common Chance with these ungodly Wretches. As they stole a larger Number of Turkeys, (nine from one Gentleman) than they could dispense with, they were so kind as to offer a few, about 30, for Sale; one Gentleman happening to buy three, by which Discovery was made; it seems as tho' they intended to have laid up for many Years yet to come.

And as they have been glutted with this hallow Meat, and almost surfeited, by such a delicious Way of Living, perhaps unusual to them, Bread and Water now only, in their Confinement, will be of excellent Service to recover their lost Appetites, and give them a good Digestion, as no Doubt they have an Uneasiness in their Stomachs after so plentiful a Regale, especially should they receive a proper Discipline to put their Blood in a gentle Circulation, as they have complained of being out of Order, one in particular of the Bellyach, which Disorders, 'tis hoped, may be easily removed with a little Physick, in order to prepare them for their approaching Trial.

These Goods, &c. were found in a small House at the upper End of this Town.
