in a school bus on a north shore
road covered by snow
drifts

The bus

found stalled in

drift about 12 miles

this fishing town on the Gulf of

the worst
blizzard of the winter.
Though temperatures were near
zero, the bus was new and tight
and the driver, Sterling Burke of

able
to
run
the
heater periodically. And the boys
and girls were dressed for rough
weather.
