Through a gentleman from the hills, we learn that a man by the name of Crawford was assassinated one day last week. The facts, as near as we can get them, are as follows: It appears that the deceased and a man by the name of Alex Tillery were engaged in making a crop together, but finding they could not agree, Tillery sold his interest to Crawford, with the view of going to Texas. Bad blood had existed between them for some time on account of an intimacy that Tillery supposed to exist between Crawford and his family, but whether the grounds for suspicion were good we have not been able to learn, but understand that Tillery was frequently heard to remark that when he got ready to leave the country he would have satisfaction. So one day last week Tillery took his gun and went in the direction of the field where Crawford was at work, and where he was afterward found dead. Upon examination it was found that Crawford had been shot twice, and the supposition is that Tillery is the murderer, as he has not been seen in the neighborhood since. It is to be hoped the cowardly assassin may yet be overtaken and brought to justice.-Lake Republican.
