PACIFIC HIGHWAY GAP IN THIS COUNTY WILL BE CLOSED-
OTHER PROJECTS.
Extensive improvements on the Pacific and Olympic highways will be begun early in the spring, according to James Allen, state highway commissioner, who has recently returned from the East. Securing of federal aid funds the first of the year will make it possible to begin the work several months earlier than formerly, when the federal aid fund was appropriated in July.
One of the first improvements on the Pacific highway will be the paving of the fill at Nisqually, between Olympia and Tacoma, which during bad weather has made it necessary to detour over the lower Nisqually bridge. Seven miles between Tumwater and Tenino and two miles from Grand Mound to the Lewis county line, on the Pacific highway, also will be paved. Another stretch of six miles between Marysville and Stanwood, in Snohomish county, will be paved, and the gap between Kent and Renton paved.
On the Olympic highway, six miles between Olympia and Shelton will be paved and three miles at Kamilche will be graded and made ready to pave. Eliminating three dangerous grade crossings, shortening the distance one mile and making a better approach to Montesano, a new road will be graded between Satsop and Montesano. One and one-half miles between McCleary and Elma will be paved.
