"Irish Confetti" Spoils Schnozzle Of N. C. Freshman
Dally Dispatch Bureau,
In the Sir Walter Hotel.
By J. , BASKERVILL
Raleigh, Nov. 3.-Irish confetti which was a part of the initiation of State College freshmen into Keramos, the Ceramics fraternity there, spoiled the "schnozzle" of one of the pledges last week, it was learned today. The result is that E. H. Sayer, of Tryon, is this week nursing a rather painful and battered probiscus, which was the immediate portion of his physiognomy, with which the brick came in contact. For in plain English, Sayer's nose was broken by a brick.
It all happened as a result of part of the initiation ritual which required that each of the pledges to Keramos carry a brick with him every where he went for an entire week-to classes, to meals, on dates. to picture shows-since a brick is perhaps the best known product of the ceramic engineer's art-or science. So the freshman pledges to Keramos, which may be the Greek word for bricks, if the Greeks had a word for it, lugged their bricks around with them religiously, including young Sayer.
So one evening Sayer forgot and left his brick in his room. So he called to his room mate to throw the brick down to him, who obligingly complied. But in heaving the chunk up, [rained some] Irish confetti from the window. he evidently put too much "English" on it or something. For instead of dropping into Sayer's hands, it hit him in the face, knocking him out and his nose in and [cut] a gash over one eye. He was picked up a few minutes later by two passing students and taken to the infirmary. Sayer is now recovering nicely, but he has no immediate desire to look another brick in the face.
