Full Text

On Friday evening last an elderly man, habitually dressed, went into the house of Mr. Clement, the Turk's Head in the Haymarket, and called for some brandy and water; and asking for a knife, cut out several louis d'ors and guineas from the cuffs and lining of his coat, which he deposited in the hands of the landlord; soon after which he fell asleep in the box, where he remained for an hour, when one of the servants endeavouring to awake him, to his great surprise found him dead. On examining his pockets some papers were found, by which it appeared that his name was M'Dermot; and that he got his living by petitioning several persons of distinction, both in England and France, under pretence of being a decayed Gentleman.
