Full Text

Dennis Kearney, the California agitator, having stumped New England, and the Northwest, is now in St. Louis, where he met with a cool reception. He denounced the politicians and press as bummers, bloodsuckers, hell-hounds, vampires and vipers. The New York Herald says: Just at the conclusion of his speech the platform gave way, and all on it were precipitated pell mell to the ground. A scene of indescribable confusion followed. The lamps were overturned, and they set fire to the planks. The platform was slowly consumed, with the reporters' manuscripts.
Kearney managed to climb to a top support of the rostrum and was loudly cheered. When the confusion subsided a collection was taken up and the hat passed round but only $5 were contributed.
