SENTENTIOUS BREVITY.

General Monnet,* the late governor of Walcheren, applied some time ago to Bonaparte to be relieved from the command of that place, stating that the climate was so bad that unless he was removed his life would be in danger. Bonaparte refused his request in the following laconic terms: "Mon General, on meurt par tout."

[My dear General, they die every where.]

* This is the same General Monnet, whom Bonaparte suspects of treachery or cowardice, in surrendering Flushing, and on whom he has ordered a court of enquiry...Balt. Whig.
