Ride with Sheridan.

Capt. H. A. Ferrell comments on the following from a New York paper.

Monroe Graham, who was a despatch bearer and courier in the civil war and who rode with Gen. Sheridan on his famous ride of twenty miles from Winchester, died last night at his home in Village Green.

Mr. Editor-I send you a clipping from the New York World which I hope you will publish with comment. I am an admirer of the truth, especially in matters of history. Let the truth be told. General Sheridan's famous ride of "twenty miles in an hour." has been talked in song and story until it is believed by the rising generation. Let General Sheridan tell his own story.

On page 71, of his "Personal Memories." he says, 'We mounted our horses between half-past eight and nine.' and on page 80, he says, 'I arrived not later, certainly, than half-past ten o'clock.' Cedar Creek-where the battle was commenced was, and not is. fifteen miles south of Winchester.

The Federals fled to Newton seven miles from Cedar Creek. and eight miles from Winchester where General Sheridan after having mounted his 'black horse' between half-past eight and nine'' arrived there 'certainly not later than half-past ten o'clock.' You will notice that the General reduces that 'twenty miles in an hour, to eight miles, in an hour and a half.
