Things were warm at the Court-house yesterday. There was a great deal of loud talk and recrimination. It was all about the new Court-house, of course. Commissioners Horn and Sadler can both speak German, and when the English language failed them, they had recourse to the former tongue. Commissioner Horn said the air had been full of rings and jobs for a month. This brought Commissioner Sadler to his feet in great excitement, when he hurled the following Dutch proverb at the old gentleman: "Vom hoeren und sagen wert manchem aufs maul geschlagen."
Commissioner Page interposed a mild objection on the ground that he did not understand the proceedings, whereat the crowd laughed heartily, and a better feeling soon cropped out in the Board.
The cold English of Sadler's proverb is, that if a man repeats all he hears, he sometimes gets the worst of things.
