The amphibious command ship USS Mount McKinley will arrive at St. Thomas, V.I., Wednesday, Oct. 24, flying the flag of Vice Admiral Horacio Rivero, Commander of the U.S. Atlantic Fleet Amphibious Force. The scheduled two-day liberty call at St. Thomas will be the first stop for the flagship following exercises PHIBRIGLEX-62 (Amphibious Brigade Landing Exercise, 1962). Admiral Rivero, a native of Puerto Rico, assumed command of the Atlantic Fleet Amphibious Force Oct. 15. He has been directing the training exercise designed to maintain the combat efficiency of U.S. amphibious striking forces. Five other amphibious ships will visit St. Thomas after the operation. The attack cargoship Algol and tank landing ship Talbot County will arrive Oct. 23. (See ADMRL,'S. page 12)

PHIGRIGLEX-62 began Oct. 15, when ships of the Atlantic Fleet departed their home ports along the East Coast for a rendezvous in the Western Atlantic. An amphibious assault on the Puerto Rican island of Vieques, Oct. 23, by 6,000 marines, will be the climax of the exercise. More than 40 ships and 20,000 sailors and marines are participating in PHIGRIGLEX-62, which will be concluded Oct. 30.
