PORTSMOUTH, March 3.
On Monday last the gentlemen composing the alarm list in this town, assembled at the state house, agreeable to notification, for the purpose of choosing their officers, and after a full consideration, agreed to form themselves into three companies, and made choice of George Gains, Esq. as Captain, with the rank of Colonel; Capt. Samuel Ham, Lieutenant, with the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel; Jeremiah Libbey, Esq. Ensign, with the rank of Major, for the company in the northerly part of the town, from Buck street, to Broad-street, and up Islington road. Mr. Elisha Hill, as Captain, with the rank of Colonel; Mr. Jeremiah Hill, Lieutenant, with the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel, and Mr. Mark Seavy, Ensign, with the rank of Major, for the company in the middle district, and Oliver Whipple, Esq. as Captain, with the rank of Colonel; Capt. George Jerry Osborne, Lieutenant, with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel; Mr. Abner Blasdell, Ensign, with the rank of Major, for the company in the southerly part of the town, all of whom have since been commissioned accordingly.
