Full Text

In the second district, which is represented by Gen. W. W. Grout, there is also little or no disposition to make a change in the next election. During his two terms in congress, Mr. Grout has developed qualities which show him to be one of the few really able men of whom the eastern side of the state can boast. There is by no means among the republicans of the second district the same unanimity and enthusiasm for Mr. Grout as is expressed in the first district for Governor Stewart, but there seems to be no desire, so far at least as the next election is concerned, to bring forward a candidate against him, and his nomination and re-election are almost certain. — Record.
