Convention at Garrettsville.

Sept. 2d, 1862.

FORENOON SESSION.

In pursuance of the call of the Union Central Committee of the 19th District of Ohio, the Delegations from the proper Counties met in Convention at Garrettsville, Sept. 2d, 1862, and organized at 11 A. M., by electing the following officers:

President—Gen. T. J. McLain,

Vice Presidents—I. N. Fitch, Ashtabula county; Col. Truesdale, Mahoning county; Dr. Howe, Trumbull county; Judge Converse, Geauga county; A. Udall, Portage county.

Secretaries—E. J. Betts and G. W. Brooks.

From each County Delegation a Committee of two on Credentials was appointed by the President.

Ashtabula—H. G. Parsons, Milo Dyer.

Mahoning—Dav. Anderson, R. Carroll.

Trumbull—Junius Dana, N. E. Austin.

Geauga—D. W. Canfield, W. F. Pratt.

Portage—A. J. Squires, S. Crocker.

The following was the Committee on Resolutions, appointed by the President.

D. S. Wade, Ashtabula Co.; T. H. Canfield, Geauga Co.; J. F. Baver, Trumbull Co.; A. Hart, Portage County.

The following were then announced as Candidates:

Gen. J. A. Garfield, Robert W. Taylor, John Hutchins, O. P. Brown, D. Cadwell, A. Kellogg.

Report of the Committee on Credentials was then made and adopted.

The Committee on Resolutions reported a Resolution endorsing the platform of principles adopted at the Union State Convention, held at Columbus, Aug. 21st, 1862.

The report and Resolutions were adopted.

The Convention then adjourned to 1:30 P. M.

AFTERNOON SESSION.

Abner Kellogg's name was withdrawn.

The Convention proceeded to ballot for Candidate, having adopted the rule that a majority should be necessary to a choice, with the following results:

Three lusty cheers were given for Gen. Garfield, the successful candidate.

He was then nominated by acclamation.

The following is the standing Congressional Committee as appointed:

Ashtabula—A. Kellogg, H. B. Woodbury.

Trumbull—T. J. McLain, E. Spear.

Mahoning—J. B. Blockson, R. Carroll.

Portage—H. Y. Beebe, A. Hart.

Geauga—A. H. Thrasher, J. J. Tilden.

The Convention then adjourned sine die.
