Still Near King's Creek.

Cherokee (Gaffney) Times: Officers Vassy, Scruggs, Allison, and Spencer discovered a forty gallon distillery yesterday near the Economy Home. The still had been in recent operation and a quantity of mash and beer was destroyed. No arrests were made as there was nothing to indicate to whom the plant belonged. The same officers arrested Luther Pruitt on the same day on the charge of having in possession three and one-half gallons of muscadine and grape wine. They had information that the wine contained whisky and that Pruitt was engaged in selling the beverage. An additional charge of retailing was lodged against the defendant, who gave bond in the sum of five hundred dollars for his appearance before a magistrate for a preliminary examination.
