Yesterday morning orders were sent from the War-office for a strong party of guards and the horse, who were on duty at the Horse-guards, to be in readiness to suppress any tumult which might arise, from the shops in the cities of London and Westminster being shut on account of the new tax, &c.

Mr. Pitt was yesterday saluted by continued hisses and groans by a great number of people, in his way to the House of Commons; and it was with great difficulty he escaped, on his return, from the enraged multitude.

Dr. Prettyman had likewise a narrow escape, but which was attended with more difficulty, the populace pursuing him, till he took shelter in a house down one of the private streets.
