For the Advertiser.

TWENTY.

O my heart is so happy and light,
And the world is so joyous and bright;
All nature is singing a jubilee strain,
And I cannot but join in the glad refrain.

The clouds that float in the blue sky above,
And the mocking bird says, I love and I love!
He sings that he loves but he won't tell who—
I wouldn't either, and no more would you.

O life is so full of joy and gladness.
No time for sorrow, no time for sadness:
Nothing but love on this sweet earth of ours,
Mingled with laughter, sunshine and flowers.

SIXTY.

The world is dark with woe and gloom,
The bud decays ere the rose can bloom;
My heart is heavy with doubts and fears
And my eyes are dim with falling tears.

Life no more seems fair and bright.
The sun of hope has set in night;
The joys of youth have passed away,
And all the world is dark and gray.

O for the time when life shall be o'er,
When parting and griefs shall be no more;
When in peaceful quiet and dreamless rest,
My hands may fold o'er a pulseless breast.
