Full Text
Capt. Perry McNeel is again anchored opposite our city with his diving-bell. He is engaged in wrecking a barge containing two hundred tons of pig-iron, which was sunk last winter in twenty-six feet of water. The process of wrecking is novel and interesting, and those unacquainted with the working of a diving bell can spend a pleasant hour on the Captain's craft. He is a jovial fellow, and takes great pleasure in explaining the modus operandi to the curious. In twenty-six feet of water, his divers remain down in the bell over an hour at a single dive, and without the aid of an air-pump. This is a difficult feat, and it requires long training and much experience to accomplish it.—Lou. Journal.
