THE JAIL BREAK.

How the Car Robbers Got Away at Nevada City.

The Nevada Transcript of the 2d gives the following version of the jail delivery:

"Hall, alias Clark, and Coleman, alias Leonard alias McCue, 'the Truckee car burglars, who were sentenced in the Superior Court last week to 15 years each in the State Prison at Folsom, and who were to have been taken down yesterday, escaped from the county jail at about 6 o'clock Monday morning and have so far successfully evaded all attempts to re-capture them. A short time before the escape, all the prisoners had been released from the cells they had slept in over night, and were occupying the corridors. Hugh McAuley, the janitor, who was the only officer around the Courthouse, had opened the door leading from the Sheriff's private office into the jail to admit a Grass Valley prisoner, named Smith, with an armful of wood. Before he had time to close it, Coleman, who stood just inside, put one foot on the threshold and asked: 'Is Jailer Wood here?'

The janitor immediately suspected foul play, and answered: 'No, but Sheriff Tompkins is out here,' and attempted to close the door. Coleman evidently knew the Sheriff was not there at so early an hour, for he grabbed McAuley and pulled him into the corridor. They both fell, the prisoner under, and the other's hand on his throat. As they struck the floor Coleman said: 'Kill the—'

Hall sprang out of an adjacent cell and began to kick McAuley about the head and face, the other prisoners offering no resistance. After the prisoner was released Hall jumped on the janitor once or twice more. Then the two desperadoes passed into the Sheriff's office, locking McAuley inside. They took from a rack two hats belonging to Under Sheriff Carter and also carried away the gun with which Permewan was so mysteriously shot at Grass Valley. They ran down stairs and out of the gate, then up Winter street, throwing the gun, which was not loaded, into Mr. Williams' lot, then hurried through the old Keeney homestead lot on Main street. Mr. McAuley went to one of the gratings in the meantime, and by yelling 'murder' at the top of his voice, attracted the attention of David Morgan, who released him. The alarm was at once given, and the Sheriff and a posse of men started on the trail, but could find no traces of the escapes, who have, it is thought, gone towards the east. Telegrams have been sent in every direction."
