Damage by Grasshoppers: - A correspondent of the New York Tribune, in Long Island, says, the grasshoppers are doing a more destructive work than the heat. Fields of potatoes and corn are stripped even to the skin of the rinds of the former. "A few days since, it is said, the express train on the Watertown and Rome Railroad was stopped by a swarm of grasshoppers. Attracted somehow from the blackened lands to the iron track, they were crushed in such numbers that the wheels of the cars revolved on the oily matter without an onward motion."
