Request that U. S. highway No. 83 be extended north from Bismarck by way of Washburn, Max, Minot and Westhope to the Canadian border north of Westhope, has been received by the state highway commission.
In 1927 application was made for the extension and the commission was advised that it would be granted on completion of the surfacing. Surfacing is complete and connection has been made with a Canadian highway, but as yet the numeral "83" has not been attached to the route.
Originally the route extended only from Bismarck to Pierre, S. D. Later it was extended south through South Dakota, Nebraska and Kansas.
