Full Text
The Dartmouth Gazette of Wednesday last contains the specifications against President Brown and Professors Shurtleff and Adams.
The charges against the President are four, viz. for not attending the meeting of the trustees, when summoned, on the 26th of August last, knowing that his presence was necessary to make a quorum—that he declared he would not submit to the late law—for conferring degrees and acting as the President of the institution after the 28th of August last, without taking the oath prescribed by the late law—and that he neglected and refused to attend the late meeting of the board at Concord.
The charges against the Professors are that they assisted in the service of the Commencement in contempt of the authority of the trustees—that they performed the duties of instruction without having taken the oath—that they conspired with the President in obstructing the execution of the late law—and that they have voted in opposition to the law, and contrary to the duties of their respective offices.
The old board of trustees have brought a suit at law with a view of obtaining a judicial decision of the controversy. We do not know the nature of the suit, but presume it is against the treasurer for the property of the institution.
