ILLINOIS ASSOCIATION WILL HOLD ANNUAL CONVENTION IN OTTAWA AUG. 7-8-9-PLAN INTERESTING SESSION.
Arrangements for the annual convention of the Illinois Sheriff's Association, which is scheduled to be held in Ottawa Aug. 7-9, were partially completed today by Sheriff Ayers, who as a committee of one has entire charge of the local end of the big meeting.
The association, comprised of the sheriffs of 102 counties in the state and their deputies, ordinarily turns out a goodly attendance at all meetings, as its past discloses, and because of Ottawa's central location and convenient railway facilities, it is expected that previous records will be broken when the delegates begin pouring into the city. Sheriff Ayers is making arrangements for a hundred visitors, but possibilities are that number will be increased by the time the convention gets in full swing and the visitors have been registered.
The tentative program, as decided upon this morning by Sheriff Ayers and his aids, will be forwarded to Sheriff Peters of Cook County, president of the association, for indorsement. That the arrangements completed at the local end will be accepted goes without saying. The arrangements call for:
Thursday, Aug 7-Business meeting opening at 10 o'clock and continuing through the remainder of the day, with intermissions only for lunch and dinner. The meeting will open with an address of welcome by Mayor Weeks, followed by the president's annual address.
Friday, Aug 8-A trip through all the county buildings, including inspections of asylum, jail, detention home, County sanitarium, Ottawa Tuberculosis Colony; auto trip about the city and a visit to the Federal Plate Glass works, which will consume the greater part of the morning and afternoon. In the evening at 7 o'clock a banquet will be held at the New Clifton, to which Hinton G. Claybaugh, former head of the government intelligence offices at Chicago, and State's Attorney Maclay Hoyne of Cook County will be invited as guests of the association. Legislators and prominent citizens will be included in the guest roster and called upon to address the diners. Jason F. Richardson Jr. will be asked to serve as toastmaster.
Saturday-Boat trip to Starved Rock State Park; auto trip to Deer Park, and thence to Peru and La Salle, where visits will be made to the Westclox plant, the M. & H. and Illinois Zinc company plants.
The Chamber of Commerce will issue an appeal for autos in sufficient numbers to accommodate the visiting county officials and show them around the city's and county's interesting places.
