Providence and Pawcatuck Turnpike Road.—
The friends of this important enterprise will be gratified to learn, that contracts for the construction of 13 miles of the road have already been entered into; and that the corporation are negotiating contracts for the construction of 7 miles more. The contractors are now busily at work; a bridge has been raised on Natick Pond; and it is expected that 15 miles of the road will be completed this fall, and the whole distance (36 miles) in the year 1820. This road, which will pass through Cranston, Warwick, Coventry, West Greenwich, Exeter, Hopkinton, and Westerly, will shorten the distance from Providence to New London 14 miles, and is expected to be finished at an expense not exceeding $30,000.
