"MISQUOTED," SAYS
VERNE-METCALFE OF
KETCHIKAN ADDRESS
"I was misquoted," said Verne M. Metcalfe, candidate for the Territorial House of Representatives on the Democratic ticket, referring to the Empire editorial which quoted a Ketchikan News story of Metcalfe's speech at Ketchikan.
Here, Metcalfe says, is what he said in Ketchikan:
"I do not blame young men for not joining the National Guard when most of them would much rather belong to more publicized branches of the armed forces, but it is my hope that those young men will see fit to join these units to help protect their country, their Territory and themselves."
