Civic League Meeting
Hundreds of civic-minded Atlantans are expected to assemble in Ebenezer Baptist Church, Tuesday night, at 8:30 o'clock, for the regular monthly meeting of the Atlanta Civic and Political League, at which time plans will be devised to get 10,000 registered Negro voters in Atlanta and Fulton County.
Impelled by the recent turn of political events which tends to inject the race issue into the forthcoming Georgia gubernatorial election in 1942, all persons present are expected to be in perfect accord with the campaign for 10,000 voters.
President John Wesley Dobbs, who will preside has announced that prior to the meeting, he will visit the Fulton County Courthouse and get all of the available information concerning re-registration made mandatory by the Georgia General Assembly.
September 15 has been set as the date for registration of more than 2,000 Negroes already on the old registration list and these qualified voters will be notified through the mail.
The Civic and Political League, then, will concern itself with the problem of getting 8,000 additional voters. To do this it must have the 100 percent cooperation of all civic organizations, as well as church leaders and the Negro press.
Through these and other organizations as well as the house-to-house canvass method an effort will be made to reach the masses, thousands of whom find it impossible to attend meetings of the league.
