Violators Of Tire Rationing Regulations To Be Prosecuted

Violators of tire, camelback, automobile, school or other rationing regulations will be punished by the Federal Government. Information to this effect was received this week. Tire Rationing Board No. 1 gives this information in a letter to this paper this week. Their letter is as follows:

Accomac, Virginia, March 21, 1942.

Peninsula Enterprise
Accomac, Virginia
Gentlemen:

The following information received in this office from Gen. J. Fulmer Bright, State Rationing Administrator, is for release in the March 27 issue of your paper:

"In order to obtain maximum compliance with the regulations of the rationing program, please forward to this office promptly notice of any alleged violations which you may hear about or which may otherwise be brought to your attention.

"Local Boards are not to regard themselves as investigation or law enforcement agencies. Alleged violations therefore need not be investigated by local boards, but should be reported by local boards to this office which will in turn place the cases in the hands of competent inspectors and prosecuting officers.

"Apart from cases involving theft, please do not notify your local law enforcement authorities. The Rationing program is established by a Federal law, and it is believed that Federal investigators and prosecutors are best equipped to enforce its provisions.

"Notice of alleged violations may be forwarded either on OPA Form R-4, or by letter. Complainant's name, while desirable, is not necessary.

"The foregoing applies to violators of tire, camelback, automobile, school, or other rationing regulations."

Yours very truly,
Rationing Board No. 1.

Main Argument

local boards should report alleged violations of tire, camelback, automobile, school, or other rationing regulations to the state rationing administrator's office for federal investigation and prosecution, rather than handling them locally or notifying local law enforcement.
