We take the following from the Sacramento Standard of the 17th inst. It was telegraphed from San Francisco on the 16th:
The Te Deum given yesterday at the French Catholic Church in honor of Louis Napoleon's victories, called forth quite a violent demonstration on the part of the French and Italian Red Republicans, who were opposed to the ceremony. The French Consul, M. Gautier, on driving up to the church with his wife was insulted by the most filthy epithets, and the carriage surrounded. A man named M. Roy then delivered the following address to the Consul:
"You have invited the French population to manifest this day their opinion of the Emperor, and, as a member of this population, I declare to you that neither I nor the Republicans who surround me, will ever permit to pass by without protest, a manifestation tending to create the belief that we approve, even tacitly, of the conduct of the assassin of Liberty in France—the deserter of the Italian cause."
The Consul made no reply, but continued his way towards the porch of the church, which he reached without opposition, but amidst the energetic cries of "Down with the assassin of the 2d of December!" "Down with the traitor!" "Down with the deserter!" One fellow, while in the act of throwing an old boot at the Consul, was arrested. As the Te Deum was being concluded, a number of the Republicans struck up the Marseillaise. The Consul and his family afterwards retired unmolested.
