Phil Anderson
The father of six children, five of whom are enrolled in the Kodiak Independent School District, Phil Anderson, is one of the two candidates seeking a post on the Board of Education.
Anderson, born in Phoenix, Arizona, came to Alaska 12 years ago and has lived in Kodiak for the past three years where he and his wife, Doris, have been active in organizing the Kodiak Youth Organization.
He is presently employed by Kodiak Telephone Company but has also worked for Kodiak Westward Construction company and the State Highway Department here.
The Andersons moved to Kodiak from Fairbanks where he was a member of the police department, and where he became interested in young people and their problems.
Anderson is of the opinion that Kodiak has a good school system, but that teachers should have more authority to handle discipline and that the district should have a truant officer and social worker combination to handle delinquency and truancy problems.
