Eight Convicted On Bootlegging Charges Here

Eight persons were convicted Tuesday on bootlegging charges, while at least 23 others were reset for trial at a future date. Ten lottery cases were also reset, records show.

Included in those reset were four indictments against one C. S. Cherry charging 14 counts.

The actual charge by the court is violating the state liquor control act.

The largest fine meted out was $1,000, and the largest term was six months.

One Hilton Dillard was given six months, while Booker T. Sanford was given $1,000 or 10 months for two counts of bootlegging. Others convicted on whiskey charges were Willie C. Russell, Frank Clark, Mary Teasley, Melvin L. Wilson and Essie Sanders.
