WASHINGTON CITY.
FRIDAY, APRIL 9.

INCREASE OF THE NAVY.

We understand that preparations have been making with the greatest activity, and are already in a state of considerable forwardness for carrying into effect the act of the late Session of Congress which authorized the building of four seventy-fours, six frigates, and six sloops of war. Materials for the whole of these vessels have been collected at the different navy-yards of the U. States, and the ways of three seventy-fours and several of the other ships are already laid down. From the prompt attention of government to this subject, and the great exertions made use of by the Navy Department, we have the satisfaction to believe that this important addition to our national force will be completed with all practicable dispatch.
