Full Text

The Albany papers state that Strang, who has been some time in prison, as the murderer of Mr. Whipple, has acknowledged his guilt. The whole transaction exhibits one of the most determined acts of wilful murder we ever heard of. Intent on his victim, this monster in human shape had previously practised firing at a mark through glass, to ascertain whether a ball would glance upon this substance. The evening on which he committed the murder, he called at several public places, probably to destroy any suspicion which might attach to him after the contemplated act; he then took his rifle, climbed upon a shed which gave him a commanding view of his victim, and took the fatal aim. After having fled to some distance and secured his rifle, he returned to the vicinity of Mr. Whipple's house, and was empannelled as one of the coroner's jury which sat upon the murdered body! Strang also accuses Mrs. Whipple of being accessory to the act; whether to increase the misery he has already brought upon the family, or because such is the fact, we have not been able to learn.
