Popularizing of Milk as Health Food Expected To Improve Demand to Point Also of Helping Farmer's Pocketbook in Boost for Dairy Output.
Raleigh, March 14. -The Statewide "Milk For Health" campaign beginning today in North Carolina, sponsored by the State Board of Health, has already become the most popular health campaign ever launched according to Warren H. Booker, in charge of the campaign for the board.
He believes the attention that has already been focused on the value of milk as a health food and that will be directed upon it during this week will have a lasting and beneficial effect that will endure for months and years.
"While we have been directly interested in the health and disease-prevention value of milk and its use, there is no doubt that the effects of this campaign urging the use of more milk is going to have widespread effects along many other lines," Mr. Booker said. "For as soon as people start using more milk and dairy products, the farmers are going to feel an increased demand for milk and thus increase the number of milk cows and dairy herds, which in turn will increase their farm revenue. We feel confident that this campaign is going to start a definite trend in this State toward dairying and more livestock and away from so much cotton and tobacco. This means that the campaign will not only have promoted better health through the use of more milk, but also will have served to raise the economic level of agriculture throughout the entire State."
Beginning today, the value of the use of more milk in bringing about better health and in lessening the amount of disease will be told to the people of the State through the newspapers in display advertising, in the news and editorial columns. It will be told to the 600,000 school children in the public schools of the State by their teachers and by speakers. Thousands of these school children have already been writing essays about milk as a health food and how it builds up muscles, blood, teeth and health generally.
More than 75 per cent of the counties in the State had completed their organizations for this campaign when it started this morning and many intend to maintain these organizations permanently.
