Event Details
A duel was fought at 12 o'clock precisely between Edward P. Simons, Esq. Warden of the city, and Mr. Gilbert C. Geddes, son of the Intendant. Four shots were fired without effect. On the 5th round, Mr. Geddes was slightly wounded in one thigh, and grazed on the other, and Mr. Simons shot through the abdomen, seriously, if not mortally, by Mr. Geddes, who had reserved his fire until after he was wounded himself. The whole was conducted according to established usage—in presence of between a dozen and twenty persons in the inclosure, and a number without—the printers' boarding crews looking-out, and bringing up the news. The parties had returned to town, and lay suffering in the bed of honor.
