SPECTATOR.

EDWARDSVILLE, DECEMBER 4, 1819.

FOR THE SPECTATOR.

MR. PRINTER,

Can you tell me whether the journals of the last session of the general assembly have been printed, or not? And if printed, can you tell why they have not been distributed?--It is now eight months since the legislature adjourned; and the people have not yet had an opportunity to ascertain who among their representatives were faithful, and who were unfaithful. It is really important that the journals should be published soon; or I am told that some of the members of the assembly have already offered themselves as candidates for a re-election. Some of my neighbors have abandoned all hopes of ever seeing the journals, and have concluded that the legislature were so ashamed of their own proceedings that they would not make any provision for publishing them. For my own part, I hope better things. But as the people of our settlement are totally uninformed on this subject, you will oblige me by inserting this piece in the Spectator, in order that those who are able may explain this mysterious affair.
