Full Text
Remarkable Aqueduct.—Boston is about to be supplied with water from Long Pond, which, being on the main land, the pipes have to cross Charles river, to accomplish which a solid stone bridge has been built. The water is brought to the edge of the hill, says the Traveller, (the river running through very low ground,) and descends in iron pipes, and then ascends in the same manner upon the other side. Upon each side is a pipe chamber. To connect these pipe chambers it has required 50 long pipes weighing 8,000 pounds each—in all, about 850 tons. The pipe will probably all be laid by Wednesday next.
